2004 Bluebonnet Bike Tour

The Bluebonnet Bike Tour will be enjoying its 15th year come spring.
The tour is put on by the Burnet Kiwanis Club which has several members who
have been involved in cycling for a long while.
The Kiwanis Club uses the money raised to support several projects in the Burnet community.
Our biggest project each year is the Pee Wee Football league we sponsor for
boys and girls in 5th and 6th grades. We had over 160 kids participate this
past year. We also give a $2,000 scholarship to a senior each year and we
give donations to various organizations such as the Alzheimer's group, Child
Welfare Board, Meals on Wheels, etc. We also give a donation each year to
the Texas Bicycle Coalition from money raised through this bike ride.
The courses are setup in loops, so that you have several options as
riders. We offer a short course 13 mile ride, mid 28 and 38 miles, and a
longer 50 miler. We have used alternate courses to give variety to those
who do it each year. We follow the same format, however, and give four
options.
We do this ride on the same weekend as the Bluebonnet Festival.
This year the Kiwanis is also planning on having
a continuous pancake dinner and we will try to give our riders a chance to
catch breakfast.
The course is along county roads. Traffic is not too heavy and the
terrain has some hills, nothing major, but it depends on the wind
conditions................... Rick Espitia
