Did you know that cancer can be chronic for years and even the rest of your life even if you are diagnosed as a child?
Chronic cancer is cancer that can not be cured but treatment can control it for months or years. Just like a chronic illness, chronic cancer can be life long. This is extremely scary for those living with chronic cancer. They must get scans every few months to make sure their cancer is stable. If there cancer is not stable, treatments can be very limited because of how aggressive their case is. Jess and Camille are 17 years old and both have chronic cancer and have been fighting since they were children. Every child and teen should live their lives without fear over scans. These beautiful girls may never be NED or no evidence of disease. Both Jess and Camille can function and live pretty average teen lives. They can go to school and do activities but their lives are filled with treatments and anxiety. Kids with chronic cancer may not “look sick” when they definitely are and should be treated with just as much care and compassion. We must do better for them. This month go gold for Jess and Camille because everyone should have a definite cure.
